Menstrual Health Education Workshops in Burkina Faso

We’re actively raising awareness that public schools in Burkina Faso need more education on women’s health. We are including men in the conversation to end social stigma that women are unclean when menstruating.

In 4 years, we have provided 11 women’s health workshops to more than 900 girls, 90% of whom had never had talks about menstrual health. At these events, we provided over 700 feminine hygiene products.

A Thought That Drives Change

“The education of the Girl is marked by the will to kill any attempt of resistance. She must be more obedient, less rebellious. What is of quality and a sign of virility in one, is a defect in the other. The little girl is, moreover, very early responsible for the numerous domestic tasks, which will prevent her from having time to play or to study. She will be less prepared than her brothers to face the outside world”

Community Voices: How GNWL is Making a Difference

Teacher Testimonial

“Let me say that this is the opportunity of a year. It was very wonderful! The trainers did very well, and the topic was very interesting! Girl Now Woman Later, this is wonderful, and I really enjoyed the training. As a man, I enjoyed it because I can share this knowledge with my sisters and with my daughters, and every other girl in the community, and I utterly thank this association and all the partners for this brilliant idea, and the activities you are organising. So, I’m very happy to see my students enjoying this training for their well-being. As somebody said, “sharing is caring,” so if you are sharing your knowledge with us, with our sisters, our girls, our mothers, this shows that you’re caring about us. Thank you so much, God bless you!”

Why GNWL Makes a Difference

Parent Testimonial

“As a parent of students, I must commend the initiative of this organisation. In our times, we didn’t have the opportunity to be informed about managing menstruation. It took us by surprise, especially with 4th and 5th grade students. It’s truly commendable because I work in this field and have conducted training with older students, girls enrolled in solar energy courses. I extend my gratitude to the organisation and hope this initiative reaches more schools. Education at home is important, but it’s not enough. If children have the opportunity to benefit from such presentations, I believe their future will be well secured. Thank you!”

Catherine Testimonial

“Volunteering for GNWL was a privilege and a pleasure. I was overjoyed to be able to use my graphic design skills to provide artwork and my digital marketing skills to support the team for social media content. Working with a dedicated team was brilliant, such fantastic women! Learning about the conditions and precarious situations of young women with period poverty opened my eyes up to a different world. Support GNWL if you can.”
